All Things Orleans Horticulture Blog

LSU Cooperative Extension Agent Introduction
My name is Andrew Loyd and I am the newly appointed Horticulture Cooperative Extension Agent in Orleans Parish. I would love to meet all of the members of the Horticulture community in the area, and together create educational programs for the greater good of the community.

During my appointment, I have several goals:

1) Update the Orleans Horticulture website, creating a user-friendly platform with pertinent educational pdfs that would be accessible from anywhere
2) To be very involved with the Master Gardener program, and organize interesting, educational workshops and volunteer opportunities driven by the ideas of the volunteer cohort
3) To work closely with the New Orleans Farm and Food Network, to develop educational programs on urban farming
4) Utilize social media (blogger, twitter, facebook) to discuss upcoming events and to mass communicate interesting and educational information
5) In the not so distant future, I hope to begin a webinar series as a different medium of horticulture education
6) Act as board member of the Louisiana Master Naturalist of Greater New Orleans Chapter

...to name a few.

This blog will be used to communicate relevant, interesting and fun information pertaining to horticulture and the like. I will post events, educational pdfs, and interesting articles on this page. Feel free to contact me about events in the Greater New Orleans area and also volunteer opportunities pertaining to horticulture. I will gladly spread the word.

I am looking forward to working with the needs of the Horticulture community focusing on the Master Gardener Program, the local food initiative, increased plant health, and sustainable gardening. I plan to do this through good, vibrant educational and outreach programs designed for the people of the parish with the hopes to attract new gardeners, including our youth, to the world of plants.
